Maid of Honour?  #549534
von AndrewSillis (GB), 2010-10-21, 13:08  Spam?
In a Bridal procession (Brautzug) the female assistants to the bride are known as 'Bridesmaids' but an older and 'chief' assistant, especially if they are married, would be known as the 'Maid of Honour' (or Honor in USA).

'Maid of Honour' is also a kind of cake.
Maid of Honour?  #601238
von drcampbell (US), Last modified: 2011-06-07, 20:56  Spam?
The principal bridesmaid is the "Matron of Honor" if she is married and the "Maid of Honor" if she is not.  It has nothing to do with age.

I'm not so sure about a previously-married, but currently unmarried (divorced or widowed) bridesmaid.  She might also be a "Matron of Honor".

In popular usage, "Maid of Honor" is used in either case, and is suitable for all but the most-formal writing.

You may see "Maiden of Honor" in some older writing.  It is now considered obsolete and demeaning.

Married bridesmaids are never referred to as "bridesmatrons".  Every one, married or not, is a "bridesmaid".

Yes, because of the underclass dialect pronunciation of "bitch".
"Toss salad" comes from a similar milieu and is a description of a sexual act. (If you're squeamish, you may want to stifle your curiosity and forego looking up this link.) <>;.

Urban slang variant of "bitch"
A two-syllable word; sounds like "bie-itch"
Refers only to a female human.  "Bitch" may refer to a female dog.  "Biotch" never does.
von atemp (US), Last modified: 2014-03-25, 04:24  Spam?
Actually, I have overheard bee-yotch (rhymes with scotch) numerous times. I am bemused by this being characterized by the epithet "underclass dialect". Mostly girls and women from 12 to 30ish, rural to urban, well-off to not so much, use this not infrequently due to heavy influence from the sewage coming from the California movie and television industry.

It is used in purposeful mispronunciation, mostly to avoid the actual "bitch" word, but is fully synonymous therewith.

Kind of ambiguous, I i would think sollte should be understood as a subjunctive in this sentence. "Should have eaten fish" makes better sense if you take this meaning. The speaker is saying that if he had it to do over again,  he would have eaten fish instead. The other translation makes it sound like the waiter just brought him the wrong thing.

Another possibility is that the context shows a religious convention to eat fish on certain days. In that case, "supposed to have . . ." may, in fact, be better then "should have . . ." If this is not the case, I also agree with anonymous4;19:26

Thus Hundefutter should be translated as dog food.
