How to say, "This car will see me out" in the sense of "I'm now so old I'll never need to buy another one"?
Thanks in advance.

I agree with aphoenix that being in payment isn't the whole phrase.  #902446

That something is in payment could possibly have romy's meaning but I've not come across that, and it would have to be in a longer sentence for +being in payment to make sense.

The "moulded" with a U makes it sound like this is British English, in which case "pants" means Unterhose. I haven't seen it on a Barbie or Ken, but Action Man used to come with pants (underpants) moulded in plastic as part of its body. You couldn't take the pants off him, they couldn't be removed. Here's a picture:
Because of these moulded pants, Action Man was always considered particularly sexless. Does that make any sense in your context?

4;all: Thanks für input!
4;Windfall: Very useful information, thank you. Someone found a Ken with 'integrated' underpants for me:
Context-wise he's trolling around in a child's "plastic princess-house" (Disney-Märchenschloss?) and mentioned only marginally.

I find the "yet" ambiguous. As a modern reader, I read it as "not yet knowing what might be lost if we lost sight of him", because I myself have a tendency to use words like that later in the sentence than ideal. But I suspect that Dickens may have had another meaning in mind, as a modern understanding of English so often doesn't work for older usage. I also find Lllama's understanding of it plausible.

For what concerns the ... » antworten

Happy New Year!

In particular from italian colleagues, I sometimes see formulations that begin with "For what concerns the ..." instead of "Regarding ..." or "Concerning ...". Example: "For what concerns the first topic, the part inside is green." If you google "For what concerns the", than you find italian websites as well other non-english, mainly european matches. However, in I have not found an entry. The questions for me are: When to use "for what concerns"? Is it just a matter of style, and bad or good taste respectively? Or is it even plain wrong?

Would be nice to get some light into it.

Thank you.

Best regards,

He had relinquished his legal suit of black for the purposes of this excursion, and wore the old surtout and tights, but not quite with the old air. He gradually picked up more and more of it as we conversed with him; but, his very eye-glass seemed to hang less easily, and his shirt-collar, though still of the old formidable dimensions, rather drooped.

hang less easily: the german translation puts this as "aber seine Lorgnette hing nicht mehr so nonchalant herab". Does this agree with the original?
