According to the latest calculations, the German Federal Diet (lower house of parliament), elected yesterday, will seat 709 members instead of 630 in the outgoing Bundestag.

Dear fellow dict.cc users,

I've noticed that some of you have taken offense to the fact that I chose to record some entries containing vulgarities. I've since deleted those recordings. I would like to offer my sincerest apologies for having offended you, and I will not record myself using such coarse language in the future.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

I suppose the vulgar entries need to be recorded too.  But an entire page or more of them together
imparts some disgust.  If you "sneak one in" now and then, there shouldn't be a problem.

Entschuldigen müssen sich jene ärmlichen Wichte, die beschissene Comments abgeben.
Im Übrigen stehen sowieso "Warnhinweise" beim Eintrag in eckigen Klammern - wie z. B. hier:
She's a total cunt. [vulg.] [pej.] [Am.] [Can.]

Bitte nicht von diesen intoleranten Typen einschüchtern lassen ... Meinetwegen mag eine gewissen Political Correctness manchmal angebracht sein, aber warum denn immer gleich übertreiben (so wie im vorliegenden Fall)!

All terms on dict.cc can and should have recordings, also the vulgar ones. I understand why you deleted them, given the comments, but it wouldn't have been necessary. Keep up the good work!

If a new user makes only audios for vulgar entries, it could be possible that it's spam, but at the latest when one listens to the recordings, one notes if it's really spam or not. In your case appearances were deceptive. :)
(And those comments were mainly from anonymous voters -- you should ignore them (if it are not justified comments like "the word is pronounced in another way, namely ..." and similar)).
Keep up the good work!

I've not checked the translation, but verbs should have on the English side a "to" at the beginning and the class field should be filled with "verb". Maybe it would also be better to include the placeholders ("nach etw. [Akk.] hecheln" and "to feen for sth."). And please give your source(s) for the translation (preferably as a link) in the comment field.

The verb 'to feen' isn't used much by people over 40, with some dictionaries considering it slang or youth slang. Since its origin is a mishearing or misunderstanding of the noun 'fiend,' it's understandable that conservative linguists try to keep it out of standard English. Whatever--my point is that 'to feen' has to be used with some care.

Herbsttag

Herr, es ist Zeit. Der Sommer war sehr groß.
Leg deinen Schatten auf die Sonnenuhren,
und auf den Fluren lass die Winde los.

Befiehl den letzten Früchten, voll zu sein;
gib ihnen noch zwei südlichere Tage,
dränge sie zur Vollendung hin, und jage
die letzte Süße in den schweren Wein.

Wer jetzt kein Haus hat, baut sich keines mehr.
Wer jetzt allein ist, wird es lange bleiben,
wird wachen, lesen, lange Briefe schreiben
und wird in den Alleen hin und her
unruhig wandern, wenn die Blätter treiben.

English grammar at UK schools — where's the problem? » antworten
von Proteus-, 2017-09-15, 22:13  Spam?  194.96.48...
Quote: Most English teachers have received limited linguistic training at teacher training college. Hudson and Walmsley (2005: 616) write:
Most younger teachers know very little grammar and are suspicious of explicit grammar teaching. Not surprisingly, therefore, new recruits entering teacher-training courses typically either know very little grammar (Williamson & Hardman 1995) or have no confidence in their knowledge, presumably because they have picked it up in an unsystematic way (Cajkler & Hislam 2002). This situation raises obvious problems for the implementation of the official programme.
Teachers also have a very limited period of time to plan and organise lessons, mark assessments, and so forth.
Pupils at secondary schools also have difficulties with learning complex grammatical concepts. Typically invented examples are used in the tradition of grammar teaching. These examples are often simple but unrealistic. They find these difficult to relate to real linguistic settings and almost impossible to apply to their own language production.       http://www.ucl.ac.uk/english-usage/projects/grammar-teaching/

I have never heard about Blue Bottle Coffee - but I am sure now I will never forget.

If it comes to marketing, keep in mind that there is a rule like this: if your product is really extraordinary, you can get away with a really ordinary name (f.e. iPhone). Now these guys want to establish an upscale coffee shop chain, with probably even higher prices than Starbucks, and coffee shops are on every corner. Now they need to communicate a really strong "we are different" type of message. So this name works for them, obviously. Also keep in mind that their target market are thirty-something hipsters that can spend $9 on a cup of coffee, living in major cities - so if you hate that name, ask yourself "do i belong to this crowd or not".
