also, stolz vielleicht nicht so in dem sinne aber ich würde es schon erzählen und sagen warum ich das gemacht habe, das auf jedem falll, <<aber ich würde jetzt nicht damit angeben oder den anderen insofern schlecht machen, weil jetzt in einem hotel wohnt oder in einem apartement. >>

I don't know if hotel gets the right feeling across. There was a time when living in a (good) hotel would have been considered the height of luxury.

B&B = Bed and Breakfast, right?

I've always imagined those as cozy, comfortable places to stay. This coming from an American POV though...are they lower class/shoddier places in BE?

The ones aiming at the tourist trade are generally cosy, comfortable places to stay - small and family run.

But, in the late eighties and nineties, with a shortage of council housing, local councils started using B&Bs to house people who would otherwise have been homeless. These places got a bad reputation because they weren't always the most salubrious of establishments and were sometimes with landlords just out to make a quick buck at the expense of the tax payer (as the councils paid the rents through housing benefits).

in my experience B&Bs in the States (I was in the south) were very nice small places with excellent furnishings and home-made breakfast. And no plastic to be seen anywhere!
In the UK they can also be very nice, just as Joanne said, but some are simply a cheap alternative to a hotel. I stayed in some lovely places and in some dumps.

Äh...hier stimmt doch etwas nicht: dict.cc: biannual
Zweimal jährlich ist nicht gleichbedeutend mit alle zwei Jahre! Wie kann man diese Zeitangaben mit einem Adjektiv klar und eindeutig ausdrücken, ohne einen Nebensatz einfügen zu müssen?

und "biannual" heißt tatsächlich sowohl "zweimal im Jahr" als auch "alle zwei Jahre". Das ist verwirrend, aber wahr.

hi,

kommt immer auf den Kontext an. Wenn du zwei mal im Jahr sagen möchtest, dann two times a year..
Wenn es einmal je Halbjahr ist, dann twice a year bzw. half-yearly.

Kann es sein, dass du biannual mit biennial verwechselt hast?

I don't agree with -
zwei mal im Jahr = two times a year and einmal je Halbjahr = twice a year

Two times a year and twice a year both mean the same, but twice is preferable and two times should be avoided.

But I do agree with the biannual/biennial difference - often confused by native speakers.

4; romy - half-yearly or every six months sounds better than semi-annual (usually).

ich bin mehr der typ, womit man so viele Reklame gemacht, pro age – zurück zum Alter und dass man dazu stehen sollte, einen gewissen alter hat und das akzeptieren sollte, und nicht versuchen sollte sich auch jugendlich zu verhalten.

I'd say "rework" for nachbessern, because the German implies that alterations/improvements were made retrospectively.

It would have been better if they had said - um (instead of und), but you can say it as it is - Experten sind inzwischen dabei "nachzubessern" und sie sind dabei dieses Problem zu beheben.

ich schließe jetzt nicht grundsätzlich aus überhaupt keine plagiate mal irgendwie zu haben oder zu kaufen, aber ich würde es tendenziell also auf keine weise mehrere Sachen kaufen, also ein stück vielleicht, das ja, aber nicht unbedingt dass ich jetzt halbes Dutzend sachen davon haben muss.

I mean, I do not exclude either to have fakes or to buy them but I would tendentially in no case buy a lot of these things, maybe one thing, but I do not have to own maybe a dozen of them.

Ich sehe diesen Spruch als eine Art von Soldaten-Galgenhumor an. Wer als erstes vorwärts geht (stürmt), ist nicht viel mehr als Kanonenfutter, also entbehrlich. Braucht also über nichts (wesentliches) Bescheid zu wissen.
