Frage:
Zahnputztypen
von romy (CZ/GB), 2009-02-20, 11:43  like dislike  Spam?
Patienten lassen sich in vier generelle Zahnputz-Typen einteilen.
The patients can be divided into four general tooth brushing types/groups/classes ?
None of the above suggestions googles.
Antwort:
'types of brushing' exists  #405800

Google: "types of brushing" teeth
You would then have to change your sentence, however.
Google: "brushing type" teeth
'Brushing types' would work as well. I'm not mad about it though.

I think I'd go for: 'Patients can be divided into four general types regarding their preferred tooth brushing technique.'  #405801

Bravo! - I would only suggest "usual" instead of "preferred," perhaps.

I would love to use your suggestion, if the term would occur only once or occassionaly within the text, but, unfortunately, it is the key word over about 10 pages ...
Zahnputz-Typ A: Zahnbürste
Zahnputz-Typ B: Zahnbürste und Zahnseide
Zahnputz-Typ C: Elektrische Zahnbürste
...
which are the headings of lengthy explanations. I can't use your suggestions for a heading. :(

I think you need to say tooth-care not tooth-brushing as flossing isn't brushing.

Do you really need to write an English equivalent of Zahnputz-Typ? I'm 99% sure you don't. With wuffke's sentence and a heading of "Type A," etc. it's perfectly clear, e.g. "...tooth-brushing techniques.
Type A:" etc.

...go for 'tooth brushing technique A/B/C/D'. In fact, you could also just write 'technique A/B/C/D'.

Yes, I will use this approach - with "tooth cleaning" instead of "brushing" ! Good idea.

tooth care sounds more normal to me than tooth cleaning. I clean my teeth, but the supermarket has a tooth care aisle. It also Googles better:

Google: "tooth cleaning"
Google: "tooth care"

Thanks for your concern, but in this case, teeth cleaning is just the perfect term:
Teeth cleaning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaCareful and frequent brushing with a toothbrush and the use of dental floss help to prevent build-up of plaque bacteria on the teeth. ...

In my view, dental care is what your dentist does for you, not what you do for yourself (dental tends to relate to dentists rather than to teeth). 'Teeth cleaning' sounds odd to me, but is correct in the context. Tooth care would also be correct.

Well, Laura, following the dentist's instructions as a patient may be an extension of his dental care.  #405891

Normally we do not feel like patients when we brush our teeth, do we? Perhaps tooth care would do the trick.
