Frage: | waterfront | |
"The port of Los Angeles has 43 miles of waterfront." Der Hafen von Los Angeles hat eine Kailänge von 70 Kilometern? Oder wie kann ich waterfront in dieser Konstellation am besten übersetzen? |
Antwort: | Das Hafengebiet von Los Angeles umfasst..... | #608741 |

Antwort: | Waterfront | #608752 |
I think that this does not mean that the waterfront extends over this length in a straight line (sort of), but the amont of space for berthing ships reaches this total. (Think of pictures of aircraft in unloading bays.) My explanation is not clear, but I think that gbu is close with the term "Kailänge". See the intricacy of the harbour layout here, or on Google. Wikipedia(EN): Port_of_Los_Angeles See if you can do anything by searching for a translation of the term "docking space", which is not precisely the term you want. As my computer is set up. it will translate only into English, not from English. Second edit: Yes, MichaelK seems to have the answer. |
Antwort: | Die Uferlänge des Hafens von Los Angeles beträgt 70 km. | #608753 |
Die Uferlänge eines Hafens soll auf die Umschlagkapazität hindeuten. Hier wird aber oft gemogelt, besonders in den USA. Google: uferlänge hafen |
Antwort: | also agree with Michael | #608773 |
Hafengebiet could include the area behind the docks further inland |

Thanks a lot - that's exactly what I wanted to have confirmed. |
