auf Deutsch vielleicht: Ist das nicht ein Traum? eine Wonne? Baut dich das nicht auf? Gibt dir das nicht Berge?

Wörtlich: Ist das nicht Butter für deinen Maisbrei?

In fact, that's the only way I've ever heard it used. Das haut dich doch glatt aus den Socken! comes to mind. "Do not that just..." is wrong.

Grits might be more probably the plural of grit (Grieß) as the saying "Don't that just butter your grits," is considered as Latin or even Egypt proverb and the food grits(Grütze) is American Indian. In this case as wisdom or advice, it could mean Lobe dich nicht über den grünen Klee, literally "Poliere nicht deine Kieselsteine auf," or so. I couldn't find anything about and it seems not very common.
But it might also have got a modern connotation due to the food especially in the South States like 'total von den Socken sein' as aforesaid.
The other problem for me has been to catch the phrase "Don't that just...," in a normal sentence or as a command or whatever it may be because it sounds like "Do not only that...," or "Don't be that just..."
Well whatever, this might be quite near.
Don't that just butter your grits! Das läuft an dir runter wie warme Butter. like
Don't that just beat all! Das schlägt einfach alles! or as question as well.

It's a shortened way of asking "Don't you agree that...?" Living in the South, you sometimes wonder if "does" still exists.  :-)

Yes, this is a poor Southern wording of English, like "y'all" or "aint". I feel sorry for them, and you should too.
