Frage: | high dive | |
Ist das ein Sprungturm oder das tiefe Becken, in das man vom Sprungturm hineinspringt? Danke! |
Antwort: | es ist der Turm ..... | #750834 |
Antwort: | I would say it is the actual 'jump'. | #750840 |
Google: "high dive" I could be used as an adjective, e.g. high-dive platform or high-diving platform. |

Danke! High dive wäre dann der hohe (höchste?) und low dive der niedrigste Sprungturm, oder? |
Antwort: | High diving is a specific sport - | #750847 |
Wikipedia(EN): High_diving Men jump from a 27 metres (89 ft) high platform while women jump from 20 metres (66 ft) platform Wikipedia(DE): Klippenspringen is also known as high diving. Diving from lower levels is divided into the heights of the boards or platforms, like in German - Wikipedia(EN): Diving ...three disciplines: 1 m and 3 m springboards, and the platform.... In platform events, competitors are allowed to perform their dives on either the five, seven and a half (generally just called seven) or ten meter towers. |

Not sure if this fits your context. But in informal AE, the higher springboard at a swimming pool is often called the "high dive." ("John's a pussy, he's is scared to jump from the high dive!") Doesn't make sense since "dive" by definition would be the actual jump into the pool. But it's how people talk. |
Antwort: | Ok - I'll take back what I said and change it to it's not used like that in BE ;-) | #750852 |
