Frage:
to pass electric current through sth.
von nitram (GB), 2014-06-25, 01:04  like dislike  Spam?
Is it  'elektrischen Strom durch etw. laufen lassen' ?

Passing electric currents through the brain has been found to lift half of patients out of depression, according to a new study.

Thanks for any help.

The researcher Dr. Collen Loo (University of New South Wales) is aware of magnetic stimulation. According to her vitae, her fields of expertise are electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS).

There's some chatter about tDCS on German gaming websites, with the term translated as Transkranielle Gleichstrom-Stimulation and explained thus: Dabei fließt ein Strom über vier Elektroden durch Stirn und Schläfen in das Frontalhirn.

Michael, the doctors only too often forget one thing: Man-made electric current from the power socket is usually alternating current; this means that it constantly switches its direction with very rapid speed. The human body is designed to function with direct current only. Direct electric current naturally flows in every single cell, and particularly strongly in nerve and brain cells. Magnetic fields interact with this flow. The stronger the magnetic field, the faster the speed of electric flow. However, if a man-made electrode or a gaming headphone or a mobile phone is connected to a living body, it forces the natural electric flow into switching its direction, about 60 times within every second. This causes enormous stress to the cells, is extremely unhealthy and, if applied frequently over a long term, MUST lead to serious brain damage.

romy, I understand your concerns, but I think Dr. Loo would be the first person to agree with you.
I do have to say that the resurgence of electroconvulsive therapy ("shock treatment") for psychiatric disorders surprises me. I grew up thinking that this was close to medieval medicine and more a form of torture and punishment than a healing procedure.
But to be clear: "shock treatment" is not what this thread is about, even though I'm linking an article about it:

This is indeed SHOCKING, Michael. Has never one thought about giving those people a puppy?
See my Facebook page or Google Images for examples of such an "instant anti-depressant". :)

That's where those "wall wart" adapters come in.  Radiofrequency, like that  generated by cell phones,  wireless routers etc. are a whole 'nother different can of worms.

Do you have any proved source for such studies? The magnets may affect the nerve or neural cells in any way but how come people thinking this effects have to be positive ones?

Sorry but that reminds of 19 century knowledge about magnetism and mesmerizing. I also love Edgar Allan Poe but I won't take his stories too serious ;)

How about  'Elektrisierung des Gehirns' ?   The verb 'elektrisieren' can be used in a medical sense.
