Chat: | Distribution | #769296 |
Perhaps even more interesting than the total result is the distribution of the votes. Of the 32 councils, only four voted for separation. Glasgow and Dundee are, I believe, Labour strongholds. Don't know about Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire. Alex Salmond made a big feature of getting rid of the Tories, but I think that this strategy backfired. |

not without far reaching consequences though...http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/scottish-independence/scottish... |

Hopefully this referendum will get the powers at large in London to address issues that the Scots felt justified such a split. It is a sad indication of the hostile times we live in that such a referendum for this long-standing union was made. It seems that people are finding it harder and harder to live together. Here in the U.S., there are some Texans who want their state to secede from the rest of the country. |

it seems that history has turned towards a devolutionary phase..... Plenty more candidates in Europe... http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2014/09/18/if-sco... |
Chat: | Federation | #769341 |
Federation might be the way to go, rather than Union. Clear distinction between federal responsibilities and state responsibilities under a constitution. (Well, fairly clear.) Germany is a federation. Australia and Canada are federations. So is the USA, although it calls itself a Union. |
Chat: | High time Westminster started learning from the federative models. Cameron and Clegg would have to overcome their headboy mindsets, though. | #769361 |
