Frage:
reckon over
von aniko (HU), 2015-06-06, 18:28  like dislike  Spam?
Hi There,

What does 'reckon over' mean in the following sentence:
"After decades of tenacious campaigning for justice, we approach a reckoning over Hillsborough; finally, the bereaved relatives have what comfort they can find in a culpability admitted by South Yorkshire police."
(source: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/may/27/heysel-stadium-disa...)

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Lllama for the prompt reply.

Er, could you please explain it a bit further?

I had looked up this word in dictionaries (Cambridge online, dict.cc) before I stated my question in this forum, but still was not able to understand this sentence.

Unfortunately even with your help and definition in the Oxford dictionary I was not able to figure out the exact meaning of this sentence.
It would be a great help for me if you articulate the meaning of this part of the sentence ("we approach a reckoning over Hillsborough") with different words.

Thank you in advance.

we approach = they are getting close to
a reckoning = forcing or achieving some type of justice

So you are saying, that
"we approach a reckoning over Hillsborough"
means something like
"we tend to think more and more that the 'affair' at Hillsborough was morally ok as the victims deserved the death"
OR
"we getting closer to the situation that the people who are responsible for the 'affair' at Hillsborough will be punished as they deserve it"
?

Sorry about my still being not able to comprehend...
