Frage:
hibernal
von uffie (GH/KI), 2015-07-22, 20:02  like dislike  Spam?
having had a look at the hiemal entry I came across hibernal. http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/hibernal:
Of, characteristic of, or occurring in winter: hibernal eczema

Cambridge doesn't have it, Collins doesn't offer examples (which means the term is rare or very specific)
The fine dictionary lists it but has no examples (only for hibernate). http://www.finedictionary.com/hibernal.html

This doesn't strike me as an everyday word either. dict offers Winter- or winterlich as a translation.

But I've never heard of a hibernal landscape or similar. Not many sources for the UK https://uk.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A9mSs3BD2K9VIqsAHsVLBQx.;_y...

Is hibernal - similar to hiemal - used primarily in a biological context? If so, these entries need disambiguating as well.

Many thanks for your help.

Sunfun's link suggests archaic usage in BE.
Wenz' links point to AE usage.

BE and AE

Is this specialist language? Have any of you ever heard of it? Any ideas how best to tag it?

Thank you.

In a general as well as in a figurative sense (refering to old age) it's possibly archaic, in zoolgy and botany as well as in horticulture it seems to be frequently used.
The odd thing is, I could have sworn that I have often heard or read it, I could have translated it without any problem, but there really aren't a lot of ghits.
