Flowers and herbs can be used to convey messages. These vary from culture to culture.

This site gives: parsley = festivity; sage = wisdom or immortality; rosemary = remembrance; thyme = courage, strength. You can use your imagination to feel the message that the girl wants to send to her lost lover.

certainly is Catesse. And thanks for the herb meanings. I'm keen on my herbs but didn't know that.

Not much of the language of flowers is well-known nowadays, except rosemary for remembrance and pansies for thoughts.

Sprigs of rosemary are often handed out at official days of memorial observance.

it seems there are some differences here in Germany but I have no idea whether the sources are correct. Some seem to go back to early Christian (catholic) literature and customs.

Interesting, but one cannot take this symbolism too seriously. The language of flowers is full of ambiguities.

that's why "Petersil' und Suppenkraut" is such an ambiguous nursery rhyme.

Coincidentally, there was a mention of the history of the Scarborough Fairs on TV tonight. There were a very big affair, held annually and lasting for 45 days. That is really some fair. Scarborough used to be a very important port and trading hub.
