in ihrer Gesamtheit

Can I translate "in ihrer Gesamtheit" as "between them" here?
Die internen Mitglieder sollen in ihrer Gesamtheit die verschiedenen Fakultäten und Gruppen von Hochschulangehörigen abbilden.
The internal members shall ?between them? represent the various faculties and groups of academic staff.
Or perhaps "as a group"?
The internal members shall as a group represent the various faculties and groups of academic staff.
"In their entirety"/"as a whole" seem strange choices to me in English here, so I'm hoping they can be avoided.

Between / among  #852358

Grammatically speaking, "between" implies that only two people or things are involved. See: "be-TWE-en". Otherwise it should be among. Unless there are only two members, it should be "among themselves".

Thanks, Catesse. I didn't know that. I think the meaning of the word has shifted over time, though, as Oxford says that "between" can be used to talk about more than two parties:
4Indicating a connection or relationship involving two or more parties:
the relationship between Pauline and Chris
negotiations between the two companies are continuing
links between science and industry
4.2With reference to a choice or differentiation involving two or more things being considered together:
if you have to choose between two or three different options
More example sentences
5By combining the resources or actions of (two or more people or other entities):
we have created something between us
oxygen and nitrogen between them account for 99 per cent of air
More example sentences
5.1Shared by (two or more people or things):
they had drunk between them a bottle of Chianti
I would actually go so far as to say that in modern British English "among" is falling out of use in this sense. I say this simply on the basis that I read and listen to a lot of English, particularly British English and although "among" is comprehensible to me in this context, it feels like unusual usage.

Indeed, there are some examples there where "between" would sound very odd, even though there are more than two people involved.
Still. it is a point to be kept in mind.
