Frage:
x dependent: x-abhängig, x-bedingt
von timfefe (AU/AT), 2016-09-19, 15:23  like dislike  Spam?
Can anyone please clarify when x appears in German in singular and when in plural?

Examples for singular:

context dependent = kontextabhängig, kontextbedingt
situation dependent = situationsabhängig, situationsbedingt
location dependent = ortsabhängig, ortsbedingt

Examples for plural:

device dependent = geräteabhängig, gerätebedingt
country dependent = länderabhängig, länderbedingt

Any rule here?

4;uffiee: Thx for the link. Unfortunately there's no discussion there as to whether the first word in the compound is in singular or plural. When it's a feminine noun, I can usually guess the compound formation. But when it's m or n, it can get tricky.

Lisa from Worms put together a nice little fact sheet on this. Check out the 3rd bullet under Das Fugen-s in zusammengesetzten Substantiven.

I don't think so. The dict.cc Lisa made her home in Atlanta, GA. "Hotlanta," as we used to call it in the early 1970s when the city came alive, sort of.  :-)
