Given the gratuitous insults in 19:42 and 19:44, we probably will no longer hear from her, him or the both of them.

I did a litte self-test with several sites that claim they can tell you your location:

Utrace thinks I'm in Wetzlar.
IP Location thinks I'm in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.
Geo IP Tool thinks I'm in Berlin.

If you ask some Wicca witches to do a location spell, you probably get a better result.

It's not all bad. Those sites do allow people who expose internet forum scofflaws like nick-changers and double-posters to feel as if they've done their civic duty.  :-)

A while ago, I was checking up on the location of a friend who commutes between Berlin and London with occasional side-trips to Spain and Poland. All the tracers claimed he was in California, but he has in fact never been in North America.
Occasionally I check up on myself. You would not credit the trips I have allegedly made.

One site places me into Providence, Rhode Island, which is about 800 kilometers from where I live. I used to drive through Rhode Island every so often on my way to Boston, Massachusetts. So I suppose the site is not completely wrong.

I think that it is the location of the server that is shown, not the location of the user. A few years ago, when there were massive fires in Victoria, a lot of the net along the east coast went down and messages were being bounced along some truly weird routes, not just because relay stations were wiped out, but because stations in unaffected areas were overloaded.

That makes sense, Catesse. I know very little about this stuff and don't care to learn much about it.

I haven't told Google where I am and so they have to guess. At the bottom of search results it tells you where they think you are. This changes regularly. Not as far apart as Carmen's test, but not always the same either. I think it depends on how the internet service provider allocates servers.

In any case, really no call for such impoliteness.

May I remind you that in 19:42 and 19:44 I did not utter any asserted propositions. Much rather, I took the liberty to ask two questions. I do hope you are aware of the fact that in the nature of things a question does not convey any asserted proposition whatsoever. Why then did you assert that I had put forth gratuitous insults?

While I did not feel insulted or offended by your remarks, because they were not aimed at me, I did feel hurt, for reasons that I do not want to explain. I just did not bother to tell you that, and I would not have done so if this had not blown up in such a way.
Most of all, I felt disappointed. These were not of the standard one had come to expect of you. I hope that it was only a temporary aberration.

22:53 The point, dear Michael, is that a question can NEVER be an insult  #857463
von Proteus-, 2016-11-01, 12:20  like dislike  Spam?  194.118.19....
Only asserted propositions can be insulting. A question by definition does not convey / express any asserted propositons. Hence it cannot be insulting.

British libel law makes publicly uttering insults a very costly business, provided they are asserted propositions.

Questions are no such thing, and nobody has ever been sanctioned by the law for provocatively asking them!
