Frage:
until
von Orbert (PL/DE), 2016-11-26, 13:17  like dislike  Spam?
Hi everybody,
I need to pay my rent until the end of the month. - it's wrong. I would have to say, “I need to pay my rent by the end of the month.

What about this sentence: I won't be paying the rent and late fee until Friday next week. When this sentence is correct, could I say: I don't need to pay my rent until the end of the month.

Thanks,

The first sentence is wrong, as you say. The other two sentences are correct.

"until the end of the month" is theoretically possible, but be aware of the meaning.
I want to move out, but according to my lease agreement, I have to keep paying rent until the end of the month, whether I live there or not.

"I won't be paying the rent and late fee until Friday next week." This is fine, but when I'd like to say the opposite, "until" doesn't work any more. You have to use "by". On the other hand, I asume, it's ok to say "I won't be paying the rent and late fee by Friday next week." For me, it's a little confusing.
Thanks again,

This means that I will not pay the rent before Friday next week; I will pay it afterwards.

I won't be paying the rent and late fee until Friday next week.
This means that you will pay the rent on Friday and not before then.

I don't need to pay my rent until the end of the month.
This means I can pay the rent before the end of the month if I want to, but if I pay on the last day of the month, that is ok, too.

If it iwould be easier for you to understand the differences if they were explained in German, please say. Unfortunately, I can't help in Polish ;-)
