... a "Decke" is, basically, a cover of something, in this case: of a story/storey of a building (aka "ceiling"). Of course, in most cases one story's ceiling is another story's floor, so the other terms given here can't be wrong either. But still, dictionaries dict.cc and odge.de both have "to hit the ceiling" for the idiom "an die Decke gehen"... (http://www.dict.cc/deutsch-englisch/an+die+Decke+gehen.html - http://odge.de/deutsch-englisch/an+die+Decke+gehen.html). "Slab" is a very conciliatory solution, as it refers only to the geometric shape of a "Geschoßdecke", I consider it the most elegant of the ones presented here. |
