Frage:	Leitplanke - guiding principle
DICT	#873266 von Windfall (GB), 2017-06-30, 12:46 Spam? I want to add this to the dict, because "guiding principles" seems to be an acceptable translation of "Leitplanken". Does anyone know if this should be labelled [fig.]? Also, is [Leitprinzip] the most appropriate disambiguation? Google: leitplanken guiding principles

	Leitplanke ('guard rail') implies a mechanism designed to prevent a disaster in case something goes wrong. Careful German writers take this into account. In my view, Leitplanke used in the sense of 'guiding principle' is shoddy writing.

	Wenn Leitplanke neuerdings so verwendet wird - ich kenne das nicht -, dann ist es auf jeden Fall fig. und wahrscheinlich auch ugs.

	Have a look at the examples on a Linguee search for Leitplanken where the translation is either guiding principles or guidelines. In my view "guard rails" simply wouldn't work there in English. It's clearly getting used with a meaning in this area. I'd like an entry in the dict for the other translators trying to work out how "guard rails" or "crash barriers" could possibly be the right translation, but I'm open to any tags you suggest, whether [fig.] or [ugs.] [wrong for]. Is there any consensus as to which it should be?

Und der unter 13:12 kopierte Link hat alle Begriffe erläutert, eben auch Leitplanken.
