Frage: | unter die haut gehen | |
I'm trying to figure out an alternative way of putting this in English. I know it means "gets under your skin" usually, but what about if it's referring to a workplace in a job advert?! Seems kind of odd to me. So something like - Arbeiten bei uns: das Krankenhaus geht unter die Haut I wonder it it's trying a play on words (it's not a skin hospital but...) - any ideas? |

It is an intended pun. Whether it works or not is another question. A refrigeration engineering company has the slogan "Wir machen Sie kalt" which you don't want to hear from someone with a knife in his hand... |

If the job is (always) getting under my skin - I am not capable to do my job. |

Thanks Prostetnik Jelzin. Hmm, I don't think it does work! I wonder what an English equivalent would be. Time to think. Sunfunlili, I don't think that's right - you could say ~"The hospital gets under your skin" but that simply means it affects you for better or worse. |
Antwort: | at times, working here can be a stressful / disconcerting experience | #893476 |
Antwort: | Irritate (slightly less apt: agitate, annoy or anger) | #893483 |
Just guessing, the intended wit may be: Excellent work conditions, no stress, not heart attack inducing. Working for us is so good that the worker will not be hospitalised, such that even the hospital will be irritated for their loss of business. Work for us, and irritate the hospital. |
Antwort: | no, it's a sort of warning combined with a challenge, the job is not for wimps (e.g. working at A&E) | #893485 |
Chat: | Work for us, if you have the strength to counter the irritation. | #893486 |
