(1) One of the meanings in OED train, section 16.a, is "way of life", which I suppose is what Dickens means here. (2) Yes, I think so. They didn't treat Dora exactly as she treated Jip, because she was a human and he was only a dog - but after allowing for that, the treatment was pretty much the same. | ||
