Frage:
./. symbol ( dot slash dot )
von Windfall (GB), Last modified: 2019-03-04, 18:04  like dislike  Spam?
I've tried and failed to search Google and the forum for this. In a legal letter, I have a section that reads:
ABC GmbH ./. XYZ GmbH wg. XXX
I'm sure the "wg." means "wegen", does the "./." mean "gegen" or something else?

ich wusste es doch, hatten wir schon einmal! Auch "Kaufmännisches Minuszeichen".

Wikipedia(DE): Minuszeichen

Thanks, hausmansee. That's the one I already know about, but I figured a minus sign was unlikely here

4;Proteus, what do you mean the commercial minus sign looks different in English? We don't use ./. as a minus sign. ⁒ just looks like a percent sign to me. It looks like ⁒ is just the Unicode symbol (probably created by non-German-speaking computer scientists) for the German ./. symbol.
Please don't use ⁒ or ./. to represent a minus sign in English, native English speakers won't understand. We use "-" (e.g. -23,000) or brackets (e.g. (23,000)).

Is Andrew Swaine German? Or does he deal with Unicode, a universal standard?  #905705

AltGr+# / ⁒ 2052 Commercial minus sign

If you have ever been frustrated by how hard it is to enter non-standard characters on the keyboard, give Keyferret a try, which I wrote to solve the problem (Windows only).
Unicode is a universal standard, nothing German about it.

Among German speakers ./. is as arcane as is ⁒ for English speakers.

4;Proteus, "./." is used relatively frequently in financial reports in German. Brackets are used for the same purpose in English. People who don't read financial reports are often unaware of either. I have never seen a financial report from a UK company that includes ⁒. I have seen numerous German financial reports that include ./.. The relative levels of obscurity are different.

Please don't encourage people to use ⁒ in English. It will be incomprehensible to a wider audience than ./. is incomprehensible to in German.
Feel free to show me examples of ⁒ in use in practice outside tables of Unicode. Unlike "./." it is possible to Google "⁒" and the hits for it speak badly for its usage in English at all, let alone in finance.
