Frage:
sweet as you please
von Lisbeth74, 2020-02-09, 12:25  like dislike  Spam?  88.130.57....
The barrels are sitting there, sweet as you please, an no one knows they're there.
Die Fässer befinden sich dort, wie Sie es wünschen, und niemand weiß, dass sie dort sind.

sweet as you please - wie es Ihnen beliebt/gefällt ...

"Sweet as you please" is a set expression indicating a pleasing appearance or demeanor. The "you" is not specifically directed at the listener. The expression is often used when describing cute children and pets in a more or less sentimental way. Why, have you seen Tom and Becky's little girl lately? She's just as sweet as you please.

In your context, the expression refers to the barrel's orderly and  harmless appearance. Since the speaker and the listener know they contain explosives, the "sweet as you please" is also a bit of irony. I'm not sure if this is the intent of your author, but the expression sounds slightly old-fashioned now.

Just to be clear: "In your own sweet way" is very different from "as sweet as you please."

sunfunlili's link is for to give someone the time of day; rather than as sweet as you please, although this is used in the 1906 quote.

https://www.lexico.com/definition/as_—_as_you_please is a dictionary entry for the general phrase.
