Frage: | to condole with vs. to condole to | |
Welches ist die bessere Variante für "jmdm. kondolieren, jmdm. sein Beileid ausdrücken"? Dict.cc scheint beides zu erlauben. |

to condole with - man trauert "zusammen/gemeinsam" .... vs. man spricht sein MItgefühl/TrauerBeileid aus |
Antwort: | #928547 | |
Aber sind das nicht zwei verschiedene Sachen: zusammen trauern und jmdm. sein Beileid ausdrücken? |

" 2. a. To grieve with; to express sympathy with another in his affliction. (The only extant use.) Thesaurus close the mind » emotion » compassion » feel pity for » sympathize with » express sympathy with moan (1581) condole (1588) collachrymate (1593) commiserate (1598) condole (a1603) sympathize (1748) " |

und das ist b = "b. absol. To express condolence or sympathy. " |

Ich verstehe noch nicht ganz. Meinst Du, dass "to condole with so." und "to condole to so." dasselbe meint und beides gleich gebraucht wird? |

I know .... what can I say? Nun, das steht so in OED ..... und hier https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/condole https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/condole |

Im Free dictionary gerade gefunden: "Verb 1. condole - express one's sympathetic grief, on the occasion of someone's death; "You must condole the widow"" Jetzt wird's wirklich schwierig! |
Antwort: | In my experience, using condole as a verb is very rare (in BE), | #928559 |
it may be more common in AE. It is much more usual to offer/express/... one's (sincere) condolences. https://www.lexico.com/definition/condolence has lots of example sentences |
Antwort: | #928560 | |
Das sehe ich auch so, aber meine Quelle benutzt dieses Wort. |
Antwort: | to express one's deep sympathy | #928561 |
Beispiele: "I wish to express my deep sympathy" "Please convey my deep sympathy to your family" https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=%22express+my+deep+sympathy%22 |

Well, das Verb ist gefragt to condole ..... |
Antwort: | #928564 | |
I have never heard "condole to" in AE, and consider it lying somewhere on the spectrum between awkward and wrong. Googled examples are scarce, and while I managed to find these two, I don't recommend them to anyone: Provide guidance and condole to the students, which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development. Don't worry about one thing honey," he condoled to her, "I promise that I won't let anything happen to ... |

Danke, Callixte, was sind das für Quellen? |

I did not save the link to the first. It was from an Islamic school, which leads me to believe "condole to" is a translation from Arabic (unusual English, but not necessarily wrong, as far as I know. Here is another example: https://www.textroad.com/pdf/JAEBS/J.%20Appl.%20Environ.%20Biol.%20... is obligatory for male members and peaceful and chaste female members of relatives and neighbors to go for condolence of the dead's family and to condole to all members of the dead'sfamily. However, young girls of the affected family should be condoled by those males who are Mehrrum(prohibited degree). Here is the link to the second example I posted above. It is from a piece of (reasonably} well-written fiction.https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8536790/1/In-the-Negative |
