Forum Guidelines

This forum is designed to allow users to share ideas and provide mutual help in correcting translations and understanding vocabulary. All feedback is given voluntarily by users, so please observe these simple guidelines to keep up the good communication style.
  1. BE POLITE
This should be needless to say, but every now and then someone thinks the Internet is an anonymous place where basic principles of politeness don't apply. This is not the case. Please treat other users the way you want to be treated!

  2. ADD CONTEXT
Terms without context are very hard to translate. Almost every word can have a completely different meaning in a different context. Please add a description of the situation or the full sentence to clarify the context!

  3. TRY ON YOUR OWN FIRST
Don't let others do your (home-) work!
    1. Please consult dictionary sites and/or search engines before asking for help! A good way to do this is to enter your keyword at the very top of this page to search dict.cc's vocabulary. If dict.cc can't offer a translation, it will provide you with direct links to other relevant sites.
    2. Posting lengthy texts for others to translate will most likely result in a negative answer or no answer at all. If your posted text includes your own translation attempt, chances of getting help are a lot better. Machine translation (like Google Translate) does not count as your own attempt.

  4. PERSONAL INFORMATION
Please don't post personal information (names, addresses, parts of contracts, ...) - this can offend against personality rights of third parties and lead to legal problems.
Even if you know the real names of registered users, please always use the usernames to address users in the forum.

  5. DON'T SPAM
... and don't post anything offensive or unlawful! dict.cc does not allow the posting of text that promotes or glorifies hatred, racial or religious intolerance.
    1. Please understand that you are leaving your IP address when posting an entry. This address can easily be tracked to your provider who can match it to your name and address in the event of a legal problem.
    2. Don't flood the forum with lots of trivial questions!
    3. Don't post HTML - it will not work anyway!
    4. Don't post links to improve your search engine rankings (for specialists: "rel=nofollow" is automatically added to every link, so your PageRank will not be increased anyway)!
Have fun and thanks for participating!
